Young people in Spain are increasingly opting to undergo
cosmetic surgery, reports suggest.
One of the nation's daily newspapers, El Pais, reveals that around 400,000 Spanish people have cosmetic surgery every year, placing them third behind the US and Brazil.
This represents a 20 per cent rise since 1990, but many patients are not fully grown, the paper suggests.
Figures indicate that around ten per cent of people undergoing cosmetic surgery are under the age of 18, with many seeking breast augmentation, liposuction or plumper lips.
Pilar Rodrigo, a spokesperson for the aesthetic medicine association SEME, told El Pais: "It is frequent for young girls to come with photos of celebrities and to explain that they want lips like actress Angelina Jolie."
A recent poll by the Beverly Hills Institute of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery confirmed that Angelina Jolie's lips are the most wanted feature among cosmetic surgery patients, with Katie Holmes' eyes and Jessica Biel's body also proving popular.
