New private clinic recommended for Kent

UK doctor jobs

Patients in Kent could soon benefit from a new private clinic currently under consideration by the local council.

The clinic was recommended for approval at a recent meeting of Maidstone council, according to the Kent Messenger, and would offer a number of procedures not currently available in the county.

The £60 million Kent Institute for Medicine would specialise in cardio, thoracic, liver and neuro surgery and would employ some 120 clinicians.

Executive director Andrew Frost told the Kent Messenger that the institute is investing in training and medical education and that a number of NHS consultants have already expressed an interest in doing private work at the clinic.

He revealed: "The clinic is not intended to replace local NHS hospitals but provide additional treatments.

"This will be the first new private hospital to be built in the county for 20 years."
