Botox is the most common non-surgical cosmetic procedure but there are a number of alternatives, a facial cosmetic surgeon has revealed.
Many consumers are keen to find alternative treatments for frown lines, according to Dr DJ Verrett, a cosmetic surgeon in Texas, US.
One such procedure is hyaluronic acid, a temporary filler that helps to erase wrinkles and frown lines.
Dr Verrett explained that hyaluronic acid is similar to botox in that it requires repeat injections for the desired results to be maintained on a long-term basis.
However, there is also a more permanent solution in the form of the Surgiwire procedure, which is suitable for stubborn lines that remain after botox treatment.
The cosmetic surgeon explained that the patient's own body tissue is placed in the depression of the wrinkle to help reform the line and prevent scarring.
He commented: "This is quite an innovative procedure. By releasing the tethered skin, patients with mild to moderate wrinkles between the brows at rest can often have them permanently removed, and those with severe wrinkles can have their wrinkles substantially improved."
