Laser eye surgery is becoming cheaper in the UK as the procedure becomes more popular.
Figures show that there has been an 80 per cent fall in the cost of laser eye surgery for people with short sight; however, an expert has revealed that there is now a huge degree of variation in treatment costs for Lasik eye surgery.
According to Dr Dave Allamby, medical director at Focus Laser Vision in London, the prices per eye for laser eye surgery can vary from £295 to over £2,000 for mild short-sight, even if the same technology, treatment type and level of surgical training is involved.
Dr Allamby said that Lasik eye surgery should be affordable for everyone and remarked: "The difference in laser eye surgery prices is truly astonishing.
"I feel sorry for patients looking into having their eyes corrected as all clinics seem to make very similar claims in their marketing materials, yet a person can pay thousands of pounds more at one clinic than another."
