Expert offers advice on thread veins

An expert has offered some tips for people who suffer from thread veins, many of whom find themselves particularly troubled during warmer weather.

Dr Brian Newman, a consultant surgeon who treats patients at private clinics in Harley Street, Greater Manchester and Glasgow, revealed that changing weather conditions may affect rosacea, the term given to thread veins and redness on the face.

"Sufferers will try and camouflage thread veins and this can be a heightened issue in the summer as the temperature outside rises," he explained.

"Some try to disguise the condition by covering up with clothes, where possible, or by using make-up to camouflage veins."

Dr Newman recommends keeping an effective sun block at hand, adding: "It is worth keeping cold drinks or water nearby and keeping refreshed to maintain a comfortable body temperature. This may help calm reddening."

The private surgeon offers sufferers a procedure called thermocoagulation, which can be performed during a lunch hour and clears the area of thread veins.
