Medical claims costs for winter sports accidents
now outstrip the amount spent by skiers on their entire winter holiday by an
average of £375.
Despite this, three in five skiers do not have
winter sports cover on their travel insurance, potentially leaving them with a
painful medical bill.
Aviva’s claims data from last ski season found
the average winter sports accident cost £1490, a rise of 40% on the previous
year.
Jerry Finch of Aviva says, “Trying to save a bit
of money by not getting travel cover when the potential for injuries is high
could be a false economy. The risk of participating in winter sports is often
not covered by the European Health Insurance Card.”
