Don't risk facial
rejuvenation surgery before considering the alternatives, warns London Doctor;
following latest cosmetic surgery research.
With nearly half of the
UK's women saying they’d have cosmetic surgery, facial rejuvenation is an
extremely popular procedure. But any kind of surgery incurs a level of risk and
latest research has also thrown doubt on certain elements of the industry.
Cosmedics' Medical Director, Dr Ross Perry, considers
the non-surgical alternatives.
Facial rejuvenation surgery
works to restore the geometry of the face, as well as the appearance of the
skin and can knock years off of a person’s age, which is why it’s so
popular. However, it is major surgery
with long recovery times.
In addition, cosmetic
surgeons have been in the news for putting patients at risk through
inexperience. The National Confidential
Enquiry (NCEPOD) 2010 report into Cosmetic Surgery found that too many cosmetic
surgery clinics were failing to provide the level of patient care necessary. A
poll of 361 sites found that patients were being put at risk by surgeons who
rarely carried out some of the less common procedures or were too inexperienced
in their field.
Surgery is not the only
option
Dr Ross Perry, Medical
Director of Cosmedics Skin Clinics explains "Cosmetic treatments have
come a long way in recent years. The
most popular non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures can be combined for a
really effective non-surgical facial rejuvenation with much less 'down time'
and none of the risks associated with general anaesthetic and a major surgical
procedure.
"Anti-ageing
injections are the best known facial rejuvenation treatment, and works to
relax the facial muscles, so that the skin appears smoother. Injectable facial fillers
can be used to complement the wrinkle-relaxing effects of anti-ageing
injections, to add volume to the face, filling out deep lines and creases. These can be combined together with a
complexion-improving treatment, such as Dermaroller®
for astonishing results which take years off our patients.
"Combining treatments
is an art form for the most skilled practitioners, but the years can be rolled
back within a very short time for a fraction of the cost of surgery and without
the surgical risk factor."
Prices will vary dependant
upon the treatment programme. At
Cosmedics clinics, based in various different locations within London, as well as Bristol, Dr Ross Perry and his team offer anti-ageing
injections from £220.
