People who suffer
with sleep disorders have been told that Christmas could worsen their condition.
Lisa Artis, spokeswoman for the Sleep Council, stated that the festive
period can increase the stress levels of many people and this subsequently
affects many of the body's normal routines, including sleep patterns.
She said it was more important than at other time of the year for people to
ensure they took time to "relax and de-stress", as this would give
them a higher chance of making it through the seasonal festivities "awake
and alert".
Ms Artis recommended that individuals with sleep disorders should try to
keep their exercise levels up despite the weather conditions.
People were also advised to steer clear of too much alcohol, as although it
can help people sleep initially, it will disrupt them in the middle of the
night.
Mind states that it is important people suffering with sleep disorders adopt
a regular routine before bedtime.
