Obesity treatment most needed in UK?

Obesity treatment could be one way of helping to improve the UK's weight problem.

Recent research conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has revealed that the country has the worst obesity rates in Europe.

Indeed, one in four Britons is overweight to the point that their health is under threat.

Furthermore, the number of obese Brits has doubled in the last 20 years.

However, the whole of the EU was seen to be struggling with the issue, with the EU average obesity rate coming in at 15.5 per cent.

John Dali, European commissioner for health and consumer policy, commented: "In order to reverse the growing trend in obesity and other health problems in the EU we need reliable and up-to-date data to underpin the action we take as policymakers.

"This is where the Health at a Glance report [from the OECD] makes such an important contribution and shall be a useful tool in the coming months and years."
