Man-flu 'putting men off GP appointments'

man flu

Men appear to be being put off GP appointments because they are being mocked when they are ill.

This is according to recent research conducted by Pfizer, which revealed that the term 'man-flu' is preventing 52 per cent of men from seeking advice for a legitimate illness.

Indeed, only 55 per cent of men visit their GP once or more a year, compared to 72 per cent of women.

A further 43 per cent of men claimed that the terminology "denies them the right to be ill".

Dr Mike Smith, spokesman for nasal spray manufacturer Sterimar and a media doctor, said that the cold virus was likely to be spreading due to the recent bout of cold weather because people are spending less time in the open air.

The doctor suggested that people should avoid physical contact, such as kisses on the cheek or hand shakes where possible and make sure that they wash their hands regularly.
