The charge for a private bed in a public hospital in Ireland will go up by 21%, a measure which is likely to result in an increase in the cost of private health insurance in Ireland of as much as 10% in 2011. The increases and other price rises are likely to raise prices for UK based international health insurance for expatriates and others working or living in Ireland.
Hospitals have been badly hit in the recent emergency Budget when large sums have been cut from health spending for 2011.
