Employers have been encouraged to invest in their workers mental health.
Carolyn Roberts, head of policy and campaigns at the Scottish Association for Mental Health, said that by making provisions for mental health issues employers could "cut sickness absence and save up to £1 million per day".
However, she explained that "stigma and discrimination in the workplace continues to be a serious problem for people with mental health problems".
"Employers have a legal responsibility not to discriminate against people with mental health problems."
The comments follow research from Mind Cymru, which revealed that only 21 per cent of people with mental health problems are in employment compared with 74 per cent of the overall working age population and 47 per cent of the total number of people who declared themselves disabled as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act.
Furthermore, employees are often scared to tell their bosses if they are experiencing mental health problems such as stress or depression, the research revealed.
