Bupa International now offers a full medical underwriting option to individual customers taking out Worldwide Health Options.
The insurer will now consider quotes for individuals that include cover for pre-existing conditions. Customers can now apply for cover for over 60 common illnesses they may already have had, including cancer, hypertension, asthma acne, high cholesterol, hay fever and kidney stones. The insurer will add more conditions to the list and is currently working on adding diabetes and cardiovascular conditions.
It defines pre-existing conditions as any disease, illness or injury for which you have received medication, advice or treatment, or have experienced symptoms from, within last the seven years.
The insurer commissioned research among 12,262 people worldwide that suggested that many people are concerned about existing conditions that are often excluded from traditional international private medical expenses policies.
