Benenden Healthcare welcomes government support for mutuals
Benenden Healthcare welcomes the announcement by cabinet minister Francis Maude of a new £10m fund aimed at enabling public sector workers to create mutuals that will take over the running of services they provide. As a long-standing mutual formed in 1905 by Post Office worker Charles Garland, the Society strongly believes in co-operative values and their relevance in today’s society.
Ken Hesketh of Benenden Healthcare says, “We are delighted that the government aims to promote mutualism by supporting public sector workers who wish to own and operate new mutual organisations delivering public services. As a mutual seeking active partnerships with other like-minded organisations, Benenden Healthcare would be happy to use its experience to support these initiatives.”
