There has been a large increase in the number of men having
breast reduction surgery in recent months, according to a plastic surgeon.
Raj Ragoowansi, a consultant plastic surgeon at London's St Bartholomew's Hospital, told BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat that man boobs, or gynaecomastia, should be taken seriously as it affects men's confidence and self-esteem.
Although the problem has no clear cause, cosmetic surgery can provide a permanent solution.
One patient described his experience to Newsbeat, revealing that he would never go swimming or take his top off on holiday.
"I was very self-conscious, very embarrassed," he told reporters.
"It was always on my mind. I would always have my arms folded or a big jumper on, something just to hide my chest."
Men who choose to have private male breast reduction surgery might expect to pay between £1,800 and £4,750 in the UK.
