Cyberknife - Revolutionary cancer treatment machine

The Harley Street Clinic in London will soon have a revolutionary radiotherapy machine capable of providing more accurate cancer treatment.

The Cyberknife machine - which will be the first one in the UK - calculates how much radiotherapy a tumour needs in order for all of the cancer cells to be destroyed without harming the surrounding healthy tissue.

Treatment is delivered via a robotic arm while a separate camera monitors the effectiveness of the treatment and ensures that the arm moves as the patient breathes, thereby improving accuracy.

Neil Buckley, chief executive of the Harley Street Clinic, commented: "Cyberknife is the most significant technological advance in radiotherapy since the linear accelerator.

"This will have many benefits for patients and it is a major boost for London as an international centre for medical excellence."

The Harley Street Clinic offers holistic services as well as clinical expertise for those undergoing cancer treatment, including nutrition, dietary advice, complementary therapies and counselling.
