According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps), many people choose to have treatments such as botox injections at this time of year as a 'treat' for themselves.
Secretary Kevin Hancock said: "I know that people will treat themselves. Certainly in the lead-up now to Christmas I'll get a number of patients who laugh and say, 'This is my Christmas present to me.' "
Mr Hancock suggested that the increase in demand may be due to people wanting to look good for festive parties, and said that the lead-up to summer is also a busy time as people start needing to squint in the sunlight.
The expert also revealed that botox has now become the most common aesthetic treatment, overtaking other types of filler and cosmetic surgery.
"It's a fairly quick and efficient treatment, so clearly it has become very popular," he added.
