Cosmetic dentistry for TV show winner

The winner of the television show Britain's Got Talent has undergone a smile makeover at the hands of a cosmetic dentist it has emerged.

Paul Potts has been treated by cosmetic dentist Dr Johann Styger at the Portmore Dental Practice in Weybridge, Surrey.

Following more than five hours of treatment, the singer is now the proud bearer of dental veneers - thin layers of porcelain that fit over the front of the teeth.

Veneers can greatly improve the appearance of teeth that are discoloured, worn, chipped or misaligned and last for between ten and 15 years.

Dr Styger revealed that there were important health reasons behind Paul's decision to seek dental treatment, aside from the desire to improve his appearance.

"As people get older, wear and tear on their teeth increases, but when people wear down the enamel on their teeth, the erosion becomes ten times faster and the teeth become at much greater risk of breaking or becoming significantly shorter," the dentist revealed.

"Once the teeth start to wear down, the shape of the bite changes and the mouth becomes out of balance. This can lead to difficulties with pronunciation in some patients."
