Bupa Middle East record

Bupa’s Saudi Arabian subsidiary Bupa Middle East has just signed its 300,000th customer.

Part of the reason for the rise in customer numbers is the impact of compulsory insurance for expatriates in the country.

Compulsory health insurance for businesses with more than 500 expatriate staff has been in force for some time. The latest phase will soon apply to companies with between 100 and 500 expatriates. Sometime next year, that will be extended to all businesses and all expatriate workers.

Bupa Middle East is among a small number of companies – and the only health insurance specialist – part way along the process of becoming authorised to sell health insurance in Saudi Arabia. It expects its licence later this year.
