Bristol knee surgeon named as ‘one of country’s finest’

A Bristol knee specialist has been named in a list of experts that UK knee surgeons would refer their 'nearest and dearest' to for an operation.

Andrew Porteous, who works at Spire Bristol Healthcare, received the accolade from his peers after a survey carried out in a national newspaper. Mr Porteous is also the lead knee surgeon for North Bristol NHS Trust.

Every year more than 80,000 patients in England and Wales have knee replacements and 40 of the UK’s top consultants were canvassed by the Daily Mail to name who they would pick to carry out a knee operation.

“It’s one thing to be highly-regarded in your profession, but when it comes directly from your peers, as this survey does, it’s extremely satisfying and I’m delighted to be included in the list,” said Mr Porteous.

In summing up Andrew Porteous’s skill on the operating table and success rate with knee operations the panel of surgical experts said: “This is a conscientious and up-and-coming knee surgeon who has already won himself a significant reputation. (He) does a lot of revision surgery, so knows what works and what doesn’t. Also gets good marks from his patients.”

Rob Anderson, hospital director at Spire Bristol Hospital, said: “Choosing a surgeon who offers the best chance of making your knee operation a success has to be the priority for patients and there can be no greater recommendation than a panel of leading knee experts choosing you to operate on their loved ones.”

He added: “We have made huge investment in the facilities here at Spire Bristol Hospital to give the consultants the very best clinical environment in which to work and also to ensure the patients have the right surroundings to help them recuperate.”
