Life insurer Bright Grey paid 98% of life claims in the first six months of the year - a 2% improvement on last year's figures. The average payout was £77,000.
In addition to financial payouts, the Helping Hand service is included in every menu plan, giving plan owners and their families access to their own personal nurse adviser. Each nurse has received bereavement training and can provide advice, reassurance and coping strategies. They can also arrange a course of specialist bereavement counselling.
Kevin Stevens at Bright Grey says, "We are aware that there is more to an insurer than the payout. Another big consideration is the level of service claimants receive. Traditionally people have thought of life cover only as a commodity product. But the evidence we have witnessed in terms of the take up of bereavement counseling within our Helping Hand service indicates that claimants see this as adding real value."
