BMI Healthcare is lighting up the future

Nottinghamshire-based BMI The Park Hospital has unveiled its state-of-the-art intensive care ward as part of a redevelopment programme that will cost almost £8m.

The hospital, based in Arnold’s Burnstump County Park, has just opened its five-bed critical unit complete with isolation facilities and the world’s first lighting system specifically designed for intensive care wards.

Experts have long recognised the importance of light to the recovery process and, with that in mind, the ward has been fitted with a system that replicates the natural cycle of the day. It also provides perfect working conditions as the pendant lighting system allows 360 degree access to the patient, meaning light can be directed exactly where it is needed.

Consultant surgeon Iain Cameron, who works at the BMI Park Hospital specialising in the surgical management of gallbladder, liver and pancreas disease said: “This new unit really does put The Park at the cutting edge of critical care provision. It ensures a safe environment is available to those patients requiring a higher level of care as well as providing for the emergencies that can occur at any acute hospital.”

Consultant surgeon Adam Brooks added: “Over the last few years we have significantly built up our practice of liver and pancreas surgery at BMI The Park Hospital. The new critical care unit provides a state of the art environment to care for these complex patients and will provide the opportunity for us to further develop the specialist surgery we can provide at The Park for patients from Nottingham, the East Midlands and beyond.”
