Cosmetic surgery 'wanted to look younger'

A recent study has found that one of the most popular reasons for having cosmetic surgery is to look younger.

According to a study conducted by Mintel, 20 per cent of adults in the UK said that they would have a cosmetic procedure for this reason.

However, a further four per cent claimed that they would consider cosmetic surgery in order to boost their career prospects.

The same study also found that breast augmentations are the most common surgical procedure in the UK, accounting for 25 per cent of the total.

Non-surgical procedures, however, are becoming increasingly popular and accounted for some 74 per cent of the market value in 2009.

Alexandra Richmond, senior health and beauty analyst at Mintel, commented: "While traditional procedures maintain their popularity, the non-surgical sector is booming.

"Accessibility has been a key driving force, with consumers now able to have a procedure in their lunch break or alongside their dental appointment."
