Cosmetic surgeons in Southend have witnessed a massive increase in demand for breast enlargement procedures, it has emerged.

According to the local Echo newspaper, the Spire Wellesley Hospital has experienced a 50 per cent rise in the number of patients undergoing cosmetic surgery procedures such as breast enlargement surgery.

Some patients are even able to return home on the same day as undergoing surgery, according to spokeswoman Natalie Lyndon.

"Women aged from 18 to 35 are busy working and do not have time to spend time in hospital," she explained.

"It depends on a case-by-case scenario. Some like to fit it in with their busy schedules, but some others like to benefit from an overnight stay."

The Phoenix Hospital in Westcliff has reported a similar increase, particularly for breast surgery.

Managing director Charlie Wood told the Echo: "It seems women still want to make the best of themselves and any cosmetic surgery has become a commonplace activity to enhance their appearance.

"Our figures show a 75 per cent increase in cosmetic surgery over the last two years and in breast surgery an increase of 77 per cent," Mr Wood revealed.

Breast enlargement surgery usually costs in the region of £3,400 to £5,000 in the UK.
