Bupa opens new dementia care home

Bupa care homes
Bupa has opened a new £5 million dementia care home in Thatcham which boasts 60 en-suite bedrooms.

Thatcham Court is a purpose-built care home fitted with themed and signposted corridors, and each floor has been painted with bright shades to minimise confusion.

The home also has a range of memory triggers which help to stimulate residents' recollection, including vibrant colours, themed rooms, pictures and bright floral prints.

Each bedroom also has a memory box fitted outside in which residents can place photographs, certificates and trinkets.

Home manager Sue Smith said: "We are extremely proud of the standard of specialist care we can provide to our residents. We will focus on providing our residents with the individual care that they need."

Ms Smith said that residents will be encouraged to live a full, active life.

She added: "We aim to achieve the ideal balance between providing the support that residents need and helping them to maintain the independence that they desire."

All staff at the new care home have completed a course designed by Bupa Care Homes, the Alzheimer's Society and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation to ensure they provide highly professional care.
