Liposuction may reduce excess sweating

Beauty in Prague - liposuction

A technique developed for liposuction may help patients who experience excessive underarm sweating, doctors have said.

Experts from Germany's Rurh University decided to trial the technique in a bid to help the 1.5 per cent of western people who suffer from the embarrassing condition.

The results, published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, reveal that of the 51 patients involved in the trial, 35 reported a 75 per cent reduction in sweat and an additional 13 noticed a 50 to 75 per cent reduction.

Dr Falk Bechara, a researcher at the university, told the BBC: "It is easier and faster than any of the other surgical techniques currently used and it really does work."

The technique involves sucking out the sweat glands from the underarm and takes around 20 minutes per armpit.

It could provide a permanent solution for patients, significantly improving their quality of life.
