Cosmetic surgery popular among US minority groups

Cosmetic surgery - ethnic groups

Cosmetic surgery is becoming increasingly popular and there has been a particularly noticeable increase among minority ethnic groups.

Procedures among ethnic groups have increased by 65 per cent over the last five years in the US, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Of the 11.5 million cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures carried out in the US last year, one fifth were conducted on ethnic and racial minorities, providing proof that more non-Caucasian patients are getting facelifts than ever before.

Anti-aging expert Cynthia Rowland commented: "The way plastic surgery statistics have escalated, especially among people of colour, the craze to 'look as young as you feel' has left no-one out.

"There doesn't seem to be any area of the body that cannot be altered by surgery," Ms Rowland continued. "Your gender doesn't matter, what matters is how deep your pockets are.

"You're only limited by your imagination because surgeons and science are willing to go to great lengths to entice you to spend mega-dollars all in the name of improved appearances."
