Cosmetic dentistry 'figures beginning to recover'

Cosmetic dentistry popular

Cosmetic dentistry procedures are becoming more common, as people find themselves with a little extra cash.

Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, explained that the popularity of cosmetic procedures and dentistry as a whole is linked to the wider financial situation in the UK.

He said last year treatments like whitening saw a fall in the number of procedures, but the numbers are beginning to pick up again.

"I don't think the new NHS price increases are sufficient that they will particularly slant that or make that worse to be quite honest," said Dr Carter.

This, he reasoned, is normally an inflationary rise and has not changed people's attendance records in the past. Only major pricing restructures have previously prevented people from attending the dentist.

Off course, those who want whitening or veneers will need to look at private options.
