New figures from the US reveal that the number of chin surgery operations soared
during 2011.
Overall, there was a 71 per cent increase in the number of
the cosmetic surgery procedures - taking the total to 20,680 - and the operation increased in
popularity among all demographics.
Chin augmentation surgery experienced
a growth which was larger than breast implants, Botox and liposuction
combined.
"The chin and jawline are among the first areas to show signs
of aging. People are considering chin augmentation as a way to restore their
youthful look just like a facelift," said Malcolm Roth, president of the
American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the group responsible for the
statistics.
He believes that as more and more people begin to use video
conferencing technology, they are noticing that their chins and jawlines are not
as sharp as they once were.
The APSP also released figures which revealed
the number of lip augmentation surgeries had increased by 49 per cent.
