Ageing has a
significant impact on a person's oral health and appearance.
Dr Dana Vieru York, a leading holistic and
cosmetic dentist with a practice in Harley Street, said that as elastin and collagen levels
fall, gums become more susceptible to disease, ulcers and bleeding.
She also stated that teeth can become shorter due to the abrasion process,
which causes the lower third of people's faces to 'shrink'.
Cosmetic dentistry could help those who see vertical cracks appear on their
teeth.
"These cracks can easily become contaminated from food, staining the teeth
and discoloured teeth with cracks is not a very attractive look," said Dr
Vieru York.
Cosmetic dentistry is becoming increasingly popular among older people in the
UK, according to Dr Maurice Johannes.
He explained that veneers could rectify any problems with discoloured teeth and
implants would provide a solution to those with a gap in their smiles.
