Could private maternity services help with NVP?

nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP)

Women struggling to deal with severe nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) might want to talk to their private maternity service provider.

According to a review recently published in the journal the Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, antihistamines can be administered to mothers-to-be who are experiencing NVP.

The paper highlighted the problems that the condition can bring, including symptoms of depression, relationship issues and, in some extreme cases, the decision to terminate the pregnancy.

But the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence states in its antenatal care guideline that antihistamines should be used for women who request or require treatment for NVP.

Jason Waugh, editor-in-chief of the journal, commented on the issue: "This review looks back over a number of important studies assessing the use of different treatments and highlights the need for pre-emptive treatment.

"Severe symptoms of the condition can lead to women being unable to undertake their normal day-to-day activities."
