Matthew Offord, MP for Hendon, made a special visit to BMI The Garden Hospital in Hendon earlier this month to meet with staff, consultants and patients and learn about the important role the team are playing in the provision of healthcare in North London.
During the tour led by the hospital’s Executive Director Kim McRae, Mr Offord visited a number of departments and met a number of patients. One patient, Philip Bushell, even allowed Matthew to ‘scrub up’ and stand in the theatre to watch as he underwent a minimally invasive knee operation performed by Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Panos Thomas.
After visiting the operating theatre Mr Offord toured the imaging department, where he learned about the hospital’s new CT dental scanner and watched as a patient received an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan. Concluding his tour, Mr Offord met with the Director of Nursing Gary McHardy and Clinical Nurse Manager Philippa Armstrong to discuss the vital role the nursing staff at the hospital play in the effective delivery of care to patients.
Mr Offord commented, “The whole tour really highlighted the dedication, great quality of care and personal service that everyone who works at The Garden Hospital provides to their patients. Gary and Phillippa were so passionate about the nursing profession, and it was inspiring to speak with them about their team. It was also a great pleasure to sit in on the Philip’s operation with Mr Thomas and witness first-hand one of the amazing medical procedures that The Garden Hospital undertakes everyday. Hospital visits such as this can sometimes be very formal affairs so it was great to be able to have a more hands-on experience at The Garden.”
After the visit, Kim McRae commented, “We were delighted to welcome Matthew Offord to our hospital and give him a tour of our departments and facilities. It was great that he was so willing to learn about what we do in our roles to assist patients from across North London everyday. I would like to thank Mr Offord for taking the time out of his busy schedule to visit us.”
