Delayed NHS operations make private medical insurance more attractive

Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries

According to a BBC survey of 100 orthopaedic surgeons through the British Orthopaedic Association, NHS Trusts are delaying elective surgery such as hip and knee replacements to save money.

Debbie Kleiner-Gaines from the Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII) says, “This makes private treatment an even more attractive option to avoid unnecessary suffering. If the NHS is cutting elective surgery, then this will be particularly stressful for those waiting for their operation. The private sector maybe their only option and those with insurance to fund it could be in the best position. Getting speedy treatment as well as choices about when and where they have their treatment is the norm with private medical insurance but sadly not within the NHS.”
