Cosmetic surgery demand boosted

Demand for cosmetic surgery in the US is on the rise, according to the latest figures from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

The data shows that there was a nine per cent increase in demand for cosmetic surgery procedures.

Indeed, almost 9.5 million cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed last year.

Breast augmentation was the most popular surgical procedures, while injections for anti-ageing effects were the most popular non-surgical option.

Felmont Eaveslll, the society president, commented: "These numbers mirror what we have been hearing across the country this past year.

"Patients who put off surgery because of uncertainty in the economy and the job market are coming back for tried and true procedures."

He added that this growth is likely to continue as the recession eases off and "baby boomers and their offspring begin to explore surgical and nonsurgical options".

Surgical procedures accounted for 17 per cent of the procedures and 61 per cent of total expenditures.
