The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps) has advised people in the UK not to pay for home visits for non-surgical treatment, even if it is a slightly cheaper option.
Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, Ash Mosahebi, a consultant cosmetic and plastic surgeon and a member of Baaps, said: "When things go wrong they can go badly wrong.
"You're putting your health and well-being at risk by trying to save a few pennies."
"The worst case scenario could leave you being disfigured," he warned.
Figures reported by the BBC show that more than one million people in the UK have non-surgical cosmetic treatments every year in the UK.
However, by not going to a registered clinic, people may be putting themselves at greater risk.
The person giving the treatment might not have the right skills to carry out treatments, while a home will not be a suitable place should any medical emergencies arise.
