Patients who use Botox® cosmetic treatment can gradually reduce the number of injections they use while still seeing the benefits of smooth skin and fewer wrinkles, new research has found.
The study by the Casey Eye Institute at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) found that patients who had received Botox® injections over a two-year period could reduce the frequency of cosmetic treatment while still having the same effects of a fresh treatment.
Roger A Dailey, professor at OHSU, commented: "After two years of treatment at recommended intervals, patients can potentially cut the frequency and thus the cost, of their Botox® treatments by half."
He said that while the recommended treatment is every three to four months, after receiving treatment for two years patients can reduce this to six month intervals and "still achieve good results".
According to the BBC, the number of people having Botox® and dermal filler treatment has risen by 25 per cent in the past year.
