Private clinic identifies mystery symptoms

London Endocrine Clinic

A routine laser treatment at a private clinic in London has led to the diagnosis of several seemingly unrelated symptoms that had been affecting a 34-year-old catering manager for more than five years.

Jolana Kirk, from Hove in west Sussex, had been experiencing a number of symptoms, including constant fatigue, skin problems and mood swings.

Ms Kirk was visiting her aesthetician Sarah Williams at Wimpole Dermatics when Ms Williams suggested her symptoms may be due to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

She subsequently visited the London Endocrine Clinic where endocrinologist Professor Nadir Farid confirmed the diagnosis.

"I felt that for the first time, someone was actually listening to me about the difficulties I was having and was interested in helping me find out what the problem was," Ms Kirk revealed.

Professor Farid explained that many women do not find out about their PCOS until they have difficulty conceiving as the symptoms often appear to be unrelated.

He advised: "It is important women who are experiencing any of these symptoms see their GP and insist on a blood test."

The London Endocrine Clinic is a private independent clinic that offers endocrine, fertility and anti-ageing services.

Wimpole Dermatics is the clinic's aesthetic division and offers a range of services, including laser tattoo removal, varicose vein treatment and semi-permanent makeup.
