Lung cancer treatment boosted by new conference

doctors consult over x-ray lung cancer

Lung cancer treatment is to receive a boost from the forging of close working relationships between surgeons and oncologists, an expert in the field has stated.

Prof Robert Pirker, of the Medical University of Vienna, explained that a new medical conference, the European Multidisciplinary Conference in Thoracic Oncology, has been set up to look into such a system of collaboration.

The conference will be held for the first time next month (May 1st until May 3rd) and will explore the benefits of targeted treatments and the best ways to enhance progress in these fields.

Prof Pirker, who is co-chair of the scientific committee, commented: "Lung cancer is a complex disease. It is one of the most complex cancers and the more we learn about the biology of the disease, the more we realise that improved cancer care will result from multidisciplinary treatment."

He added that cooperation would result in the development of highly sophisticated treatment needed to combat such intricate diseases.

Researchers in Shanghai have claimed to have evidence that TIP30 prevents metastatic progression of lung cancer.
