AIG launches HealthChoice

AIG Direct has launched HealthChoice, a pick and mix private medical insurance.

The product will pay for treatment at a hospital provided by BMI Healthcare; another private hospital; or, if the patient decides to have their operation on the NHS, the provider will give the customer a cash sum equivalent to the full cost of the procedure at a BMI hospital.

Cover is different from most standard PMI policies as it only covers diagnosis, planned surgery and post-operative care.

There is no cover for psychiatric treatment, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or dental treatment.

Policyholders are encouraged to use a BMI hospital as if they do so the insurer pays BMI direct, but if they use another provider they have to pay the provider themselves and then seek to recover the money from AIG.
