ABI improve online and telephone applications

The ABI (Association of British Insurers) is taking steps to help customers of life, critical illness and income protection insurance with new proposals for guidance to make applications over the telephone and Internet clearer.

Richard Walsh, the ABI’s Head of Health and Protection Insurance, says:

“More and more people are applying for life and protection insurance over the phone or on the Internet. This is the next stage of our work to make all types of application easier for customers to understand. This is the best way to reduce the amount of non-disclosure of pre-existing medical conditions. We expect that ABI member companies will begin to implement the new guidance quickly once it is finalised in early 2007.”

The ABI is the trade association for Britain’s insurance industry. Its nearly 400 member companies provide over 94% of the insurance business in the UK.
