Advice for those travelling to Pakistan - get insurance

Advice for those travelling to Pakistan-get insurance
The FCO is issuing advice to all British travellers choosing to visit Pakistan.

Specific advice is being aimed at members of the Sikh community who may be travelling to the country to celebrate a festival.

A Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) spokesperson says, "We are aware that many British nationals may be planning to visit Pakistan in the near future, including British Sikhs travelling to celebrate the birthday of Guru Nanak on November 28th.We are urging British travellers to be as prepared as possible for their trip given the developing situation in Pakistan at the moment."

The FCO advice states: As a state of emergency was announced in Pakistan on the evening of 3 November, we recommend that you follow the developing situation closely by consulting FCO travel advice regularly at www.fco.gov.uk/travel or by calling 0845 850 2829.

Obtain comprehensive travel insurance before travelling, check exclusions with your insurer, including whether your trip to Pakistan is covered at this time.

Check entry requirements as British passport holders may require a visa to enter the country. Check with the Pakistani representation in the UK before travelling as there is a legal requirement for some foreign nationals to register with the Police after arrival in Pakistan.

If you are travelling with children check their entry requirements too.

All British nationals visiting or resident in Pakistan should register with the British Consular Sections of the British High Commission in Islamabad or the Deputy High Commission in Karachi. All contact details can be found on www.fco.gov.uk/travel .

Photocopy key documents (passport, insurance documents, visa, credit card details) take one copy with you and leave one with family/friends at home. Also leave details of your itinerary with family/friends in the UK.

Check medical requirements before you travel including any vaccinations you may need.
