£22m extension at The Wellington Hospital

National Orthodontic Week (NOW) will take place in March this year.

The campaign is intended to inform patients of the possibilities available through orthodontics, including some cosmetic dentistry treatments.

Orthodontics can help improve the "look and function" of the teeth, according to the British Orthodontic Society which is backing the NOW campaign.

Dr Mohit Khurana, a consultant orthodontist, commented on the benefits of a healthy smile: "It's clear that more and more adults are acutely aware of the powerful influence that having straight teeth and a confident smile can have, both personally and professionally."

Last year, nearly a million people in the UK began orthodontic treatment of some form, demonstrating that it is becoming an increasingly popular dental option.

Common reasons for orthodontic treatments include protruding upper front teeth, asymmetry when teeth or the position of the jaw has changed and crowding when a narrow jaw means that there simply isn't enough room for teeth to grow.
