Who are Capio Santé?

Focus on the digestive surgery team

A team of 4 surgeons, working full time at Clinique de la Sauvegarde in Lyon, can perform all types of digestive surgery as well as endocrinal disorder surgery (because of its link to obesity pathology). They are all registered at the Board of Doctors and accredited for general digestive surgery practice. In total they perform over 2500 procedures per year, the majority of them being laparoscopic / minimally invasive surgeries. Gastrointestinal surgery

Gastrointestinal surgery focuses on the gastrointestinal tract and can include operations on the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon, pancreas, liver and gall bladder. Usually these procedures require a few days' stay at the clinic, except for gallbladder removal which can be performed on an outpatient basis under certain conditions.

Abdominal wall surgery

Digestive surgery also includes procedures on the abdominal wall, such as hernia repairs. Hernias occur most commonly in the groin (inguinal hernia), the navel (umbilical hernia), and at the incision site of a previous surgery (incisional hernia). Inguinal hernia repairs are usually handled on an outpatient basis with minimally invasive techniques with an implant to reinforce the wall. Other hernias can require a few days' stay at the hospital.

Colorectal surgery

Colorectal surgery is usually undertaken to repair damage to the anus, rectum and colon that can result from disease such as bowel cancer, anal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulitis. Haemorrhoids removal is a commonplace colorectal surgery, which can be handled on an outpatient basis or with a few days' hospitalisation depending on the severity of the disorder and the choice of surgical technique.

Obesity surgery

Gastric bypass is the most common type of weight loss surgery. In the operation, the surgeon creates a shortcut for the food, bypassing a section of the stomach and the small intestine. Skipping these parts of the digestive tract means that fewer calories get absorbed into the body.

Lap band surgery is among the least invasive weight loss treatments. This surgery uses an inflatable band to squeeze the stomach into two sections. Gastric banding physically restricts the amount of food one can consume during a meal, which means that most people can only eat a half to one cup of food before feeling too full. This procedure is commonly performed on a day care basis, by an experienced and renowned team based in Lyon (see below).
