St Philip's hospital also specialises in keyhole surgery.  With the establishment of a specialised Keyhole Surgery unit, run by a team of doctors and nurses specially trained in keyhole surgery and utilising the latest equipment, they have established a centre of excellence where 75% of all surgery is performed by keyhole.

An all inclusive package

They have designed an all-inclusive package for surgery in Malta and for various types of medical treatment, which will enable you to determine the overall total cost of your stay at the hospital prior to booking. There will be no extra fees during your stay and therefore no unpleasant surprises.

They can arrange full travel facilities, through Malta Bargain Holidays, for patients who wish to travel to Malta for medical treatment.

Quality of care and personal service

The accent at St Philip’s Hospital is on quality-care.  One nurse is dedicated to look after 5 or 6 patients but patients who are more dependent may have one to one nursing care.  Quality care and personal service remain high on their priority list.

St Philip's has built a reputation for medical excellence and keyhole surgery and guarantee to provide an efficient and personalised service as well as medical expertise.

Facilities

St Philip’s Hospital in Malta has invested heavily in advanced surgical equipment and surgical methods.

Most surgical operations at St. Philip’s Hospital are performed in dedicated operating theatres with laminar flow ventilation.  Air is changed some 400 times per hour in the vicinity of the patient on the operating table and this has been shown to decrease the incidence of post-operative infections by around 50%.

At St Philips Hospital every patient has his / her own room - so that there is less risk of catching an infection from another patient as in a general ward.  Alcohol dispensers are found outside patients’ rooms so that doctors and nurses can sterilise their hands after examining a patient. These two factors have been shown to be crucial in diminishing the risk of cross infections.

Expertise in knee and hip replacement

The hospital specialises in hip and knee joint replacement surgery using the latest prostheses and techniques.

A painful knee or hip may affect your ability to lead an active life and surgery is recommended primarily to relieve pain.  Joint replacement or arthroplasty, is the surgical procedure in which damaged joint surfaces are replaced.

Several procedures may be adopted. The majority of knee or hip replacements work on the basis of a metal titanium component in the thighbone and a high-density polyethylene cup in the pelvic bone. In most cases, hip or knee replacements are secured with special bone cement that attaches the metal to the bone. Hip or knee replacements may last as long as fifteen years depending on the level of physical activity undertaken following surgery.
