goChirurgie: Surgery and private operations in Germany

goChirurgie, of Cologne, Germany, is the brainchild of Dr Martin Edelmann who founded the surgery in a bid to speed up the agonising wait patients have to suffer before they can have surgery.

Dr Edelmann, who has been a physician since 1983,  says: "I have always received a great deal of positive feedback from patients.

"However, people have repeatedly made comments about long waiting-times concerned in waiting for surgery: either it was the difficulty of reaching me on the telephone, or waiting times at my practice, or even a long wait for appointments both for operations and treatment.“

With that in mind Dr Edelmann set about creating a pracrice that never wavered in prioritising service, and in 2006 he launched goChirurgie.

Rapid first appointment

You will be given an appointment within three working days of your phone call. Further appointments for either consultations or treatments take place only with mutual agreement.

goChirurgie prefers to focus on an outpatient basis and is committed to focus mainly on out-patient treatments. Its motto is "Out-patient if possible, in-patient if necessary."

If your surgery requires you to be an in-patient, the rooms are extremely clean and disinfected. Dr Edelmann believes that patients should be in a clean environment and then at the soonest opportunity allowed to become an out-patient.

Operative treatments offered

goChirurgie is a clinic  that deals with the treatment of diseases and injuries to the joints, bones and soft tissues. Amongst the most common operations are knee surgery, shoulder, hand and foot surgery. It goes without saying that they also carry out general surgical procedures.

Fully trained orthopaedic surgeon

Dr Edelmann qualified as an accident surgeon in 1992 and the following year became the medical examiner of the Berufsgenossenschaften. From 1993 until October 2006 he practised as an orthopaedic surgeon with a focus on outpatient operations. In October 2006, he founded and opened goChirurgie – Zentrum für Chirurgie (Centre for Surgery).
