At Barcelona Spine Center patient satisfaction is the goal!
Below is the list of most frequently treated conditions at Barcelona Spine Center
Lumbar disc herniation
Herniation of a disc occurs when the soft centre of the disc bulges into the spinal canal and compresses a nerve root against the lamina or pedicle of a vertebra, thus causing sciatica. If conservative treatment of the herniated disc has failed, surgical treatment may be the only way to eliminate sciatica.
At Barcelona Spine Center removal of the prolapsed part of the intervertebral disk is performed using a microscopic approach. This microdiscectomy is performed through a small incision in the skin. Consequently, back muscles are not cut or traumatised, but progressively dilated. With this approach the nerve and prolapsed disc become visible allowing safe removal of the hernia. In most cases patient will feel much better immediately after the operation. In some cases microdiscectomy can be done endoscopically, through a slightly smaller incision in the skin.
Degenerative disc disease
Disc degeneration is a normal part of aging and for most people is not a problem, but in some cases a degenerated disc can cause severe constant chronic pain. Spinal fusion is an effective treatment of this condition and can be performed in Barcelona Spine Center with minimally invasive techniques.
As an alternative to a permanent fusion of two vertebrae, the neurosurgeons can perform dynamic stabilisation. The major feature of dynamic stabilisation is to allow controlled motion in such a way as to achieve more normal movement of the spine while preserving its normal anatomic structures. Dynamic stabilisation is performed using MIS and in some cases on an outpatient basis.
Specialists of Barcelona Spine Center are experts in treatment of Degenerative Disc Disease and can determine the best treatment, degree of necessary correction, extent and type of stabilisation for each patient.
