Many of their doctors are involved in ground breaking research and bring to the Wellington the very latest proven techniques to treat both common and complex conditions alike. The Urology Unit practises an Integrated Approach with consultants and specialist physicians from a number of complementary disciplines meeting to discuss individual patient's conditions and the most appropriate care programme to suit.
Experienced and professional team
The team includes surgeons, oncologists, radiologists and specialist physicians supported by leading consultants using the very latest endoscopic and diagnostic technology. Specialist nurses are chosen for their high level of training and wide experience in these areas.
Mr Amir Kaisary - experienced and highly qualified urologist
Mr Kaisary undertook his initial medical training at Cairo University. In 1974 he came to the UK to sit his FRCS exams. After posts at the Royal Marsden, St. Mary’s, Nuffield Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, Bristol Royal Infirmary, and Oxford University he joined the Royal Free as consultant and Honourary senior lecturer in Urology in 1987.
Mr. Kaisary’s main interest in Urology is prostate cancer. In 1988 he set up a prostate laboratory which provides an advanced approach to diagnosis and management of prostate disease. The laboratory has facilities for ultrasound examination of the prostate gland and biopsy techniques on an out patient basis without the need for anaesthesia. It also has a microwave thermotherapy machine, which provides both transrectal and transurethral treatment of prostatic hypertrophy under local anaesthesia which means that inpatient admission is usually not required.
Diagnosis using state of the art imaging equipment
The Diagnostics and Imaging Department is one of the most up to date in the country and the largest of its kind in the UK private sector. The unit has just completed a £6 million investment programme both expanding and renewing many of their facilities, including the fastest 64-slice CT scanner available, two MRI scanners, X-Ray machines, Ultrasound equipment and Interventional Radiology facilities.
The Wellington is constantly working to improve and expand its services and has recently invested in a film-less system so doctors can view scans and X-rays etc on-line. This will speed up the time from diagnosis to treatment and end delays caused by mislaid X-Rays.
A team of 20 Consultant Radiologists, many of whom hold senior positions in some of London's renowned teaching hospitals, are on hand to interpret and report on the results of a patient's scan, X-Ray or Ultrasound. They are backed by highly qualified specialist radiographers and nurses and a back office team who prepare reports of each diagnostic investigation. The department is available 24 hours for clinical emergencies.
