What skin conditions does the Natural Dermatology Clinic treat?
The following diseases and skin conditions can be treated very successfully with botanical dermatology:
Acne - a common and is usually treatable condition. You may need treatment for several months to clear spots. Inflamed acne needs to be treated early to prevent scarring.
Skin ageing - oestrogen plays many important roles in the skin and ageing seems to accelerate after menopause. It is known that the decline in skin collagen that occurs with ageing occurs at a greater rate during the first few years after menopause.
Eczema - this condition is prevalent in 15-20% of school age children, up to 10% of adults and 2-4% of patients suffer with a severe form of eczema.
Rosacea - a chronic inflammatory skin condition that symmetrically affects the face and causes tiny pimples and red lines; untreated it can cause bulbous red nose (Rhinophyma).
Seborrhoeic dermatitis - more common in males, this is redness and scaling (greasy) in regions where sebaceous glands are most active: the scalp, forehead, face, chest, armpits, under the breasts and groin.
Other conditions that can be treated using medicinal plant extracts and nutrition support:
What is a Botanical Cosmeceutical?
Cosmeceuticals are cosmetic products which have biologically active ingredients. The functioning of these biologically active ingredients on the skin barrier and skin health characterise the cosmeceutical realm. Botanical cosmeceuticals are by definition derived from medicinal plants.
The ability of these ingredients to enhance skin functioning depends on how the cosmetic chemist formulates them into creams, lotions etc. Only an appropriate formulation can maintain the integrity of the active ingredient, deliver it in a biologically active form to the skin, reach the target site in sufficient quantity to exert an effect, and properly release it from the carrier vehicle.
