A sex addict is compelled to engage in sexual behaviour, regardless of the problems it may cause in their social, personal and work lives.
Conservative estimates suggest that between three and six per cent of people experience sexual addiction, but the true figure is probably higher. Due to this affliction commonly being accompanied by feelings of shame and embarrassment, sex addicts often find it difficult to seek help.
