Psychiatric care and mental health rehabilitation at the John Munroe Hospital Group in Staffordshire

The John Munroe Hospital Group is a leading national provider of mental health rehabilitation and long term mental health care. Operating in the Midlands, but accepting referrals nationwide, they build upon over 22 years experience in mental health care provision.

They provide an independent mental health hospital rehabilitation service to NHS patients with impaired life skills. They may have been on NHS acute wards, low secure facilities or psychiatric intensive care units (PICU) and now require a new approach to their care. They do this by using slow stream rehabilitation and recovery models that utilize step down care pathways in order to maximise their independence and promote optimal quality of life.

Horton Ward is a 15 bed locked/low secure unit for male and female patients who present with severe and enduring mental illness presenting with challenging behaviours who require intensive or slow stream rehabilitation.  The unit offers a very large communal lounge/dining area, low stimulus area and a female only lounge, as well as a garden area.

Coxon Ward is a 28 bed locked unit and provides rehabilitation for male and female patients. This unit is often a natural pathway from Horton Unit and accommodates individuals with severe and enduring mental illness, early onset dementia and challenging behaviours. This ward is divided into two separate sub units.

Step down bungalows

The two bungalows serve as step down mental health rehabilitation facilities and are located within the extensive hospital grounds, independent from the main hospital.  Patients are encouraged to develop independent life skills such as budgeting, preparing meals and laundry.  Each bungalow has its own therapy kitchen/dining room, lounge and extensive garden facilities.

  • The Larches is a male 'locked' bungalow with 6 beds
